  • Description: Vasilis Maras (Vasilakis Kailas) is a poor orphan child whose father has died and who wants to study - so he works as a shoe-shine boy. His mother Anna (Rita Myrat), who was working as a maid in a wealthy household, is unfairly jailed for theft and murder. The young boy, with the help of the lawyer Giorgos Karalis, manages to prove that she is innocent. Later, with his mother’s love and his shoe-shine tools, he starts to conquer life. Working hard and saving as much money as he can, he manages to finish high school in the evenings and then university, graduating with a degree in medicine… and becomes a doctor (Dimitris Papamichail plays the role of the adult Vasilis Maras). In addition, he falls in love with Maria, a spoilt rich young woman. Her mother, who is also Karalis’ sister, wants her to marry a young man of their own social class. Maria’s love for Vasilis proves to be stronger than her mother’s will. The end of the story finds the two young people together and happy.
